Quite a day for OceanHour at several sites:
2204 straws were part of the 119 lbs of trash picked up at Quietwater Beach. More info to follow
271 lbs of trash were picked up by 47 volunteers including people from American Water and Scout Troop 602
44 volunteers picked up 290 lbs of trash at the two sites - more than the 4 cleanups in September 2016 (282 lbs)!

Seattle is banning plastic straws - EcoWatch notice
One volunteer picked up 436 plastic straws and stir sticks in one hour between Flounders and Hemingway's restaurants
44 volunteers picked up 182 lbs bringing the day's collection to 342 lbs including Pensacola Beach. For August a total to 1,033 lbs
Beverly McCay of the Holiday Inn Express on the beach is replacing plastic coffee stir sticks with wood! Plastic straws are NOT offered either!
