GBHS "Save the Wave" Project

Catch the "Save the Wave" project Gulf Breeze High School Marine Science and Art students put together using over 500 plastic bottles (waves) and Capri-Sun packaging (fish). This project focuses attention on plastic pollution! There is a student-led effort to get campus-wide water filling stations installed at GBHS to reduce the number of plastic bottles used there on a daily basis!  Thank you to Marine Science Teacher Katherine Edwards and Art Teacher Susan Hoffman for your support and guidance.

Navarre Middle School

Holley Navarre Middle School students are passionate about straws - they've been cleaning them off Navarre Beach, Florida & Pensacola Beach, Florida by the thousands! These creative students made a giant straw from their straws and used it in their appeal to local Navarre Beach eateries asking them to skip the straw or give them on request only. Kids changing the world, taking on marine debris! #skipthestraw #nomoremarinedebris   Jen Butera is their rock star faculty sponsor!

A sleeping spot at Bartram Park. 18 volunteers picked up 112 lbs of debris before migrating into the bay

May 12th Air BnB hosts assisted at Chimney Park.

169 lbs of debris picked up by 29 volunteers on a beautiful Saturday moring

May 3rd & 5th - An extra site earlier in the week

An intrepid volunteer (Andy) collected 170 lbs of debris at Bay Bluffs earlier in the week. Coupled with the 453 lbs from the 5th makes May the fifth month in a row of higher volumes versus 2017

Apr 28th at Park West on the beach

42 volunteers collected 444 water bottle caps, preserved wood and ~200' of copper wire.

In April, 1,555 lbs of trash picked up from our beaches. Year total to date is 5,868 lbs

Apr 21st at Pensacola Visitor Center & Bartram Park

Between the two parks, 54 volunteers (thanks Science National Honor Society members) picked up 332 lbs of trash. Including the usual debris by graffiti painters

Apr 13th at Chimney and Bay Bluffs Parks - 737 lbs!

Quite a collection of tires (7), two water heater shells and the usual adult alcoholic beverage containers. Also a fire extingusher!

Rain Out on April 7th but ........

Two Ocean Hour members (Andy & Tammy) collected 168 lbs of trash on April 8th!!!

First time cleanup at Dr. Payne Bridge, Bayou Texar

Wow - 388 lbs of trash! Including 50 from underwater by 2 kayakers

1st quarter total trash was 4,313 lbs versus 2,313 in 2017
